A LOCALLY-OWNED independent travel agent is helping put high-flying Barrow AFC on the
map by launching a holiday offer to support the club.
With the table-topping Bluebirds bidding for promotion to the Football League for the first time in almost 50 years, Barrow and Ulverston travel agent Travel The Globe has come up with an innovative way of backing the club.
The Bluebirds Trust is aiming to raise £65,000 by the end of May through its Play Your Part
scheme to maintain the supporters group’s 10 per cent stake in the club and help the board, and Ian Evatt’s side, to keep driving forward.
Travel The Globe owners Lisa Barnes and Claire Milby, who have 34 years and 27 years of
travel agency experience respectively, are launching an offer where for every overseas package holiday booked through Travel The Globe between now and the end of May, when a client quotes ‘Destination Bluebirds’, £15 will be donated to the trust’s Play Your Part campaign.
Claire said: “Being a locally-owned independent travel agent at the heart of the Barrow and
Ulverston communities we wanted to do our bit to help put Barrow AFC on the map.
“This way every time someone books an overseas package holiday with us and they quote
‘Destination Bluebirds’ they are supporting the team and the club - so it’s a win-win for
“The football club is a great source of pride in the local area, and the way they are being run off the pitch, and the performances of the side on the pitch, has really inspired the whole
community to get behind them.
“We wanted to help the club maintain that momentum by supporting the Bluebirds Trust in this way.
“We wish Ian Evatt and the team all the best with their promotion push and, like everyone else in the area, we hope next season’s travel plans are to League Two destinations.”
Steve Herbert, chair of the Bluebirds Trust, said: “Travel The Globe are a well-known local
company who contacted us wanting to 'do their bit' to help Barrow AFC.
“This is a brilliant offer they have come up with. We hugely appreciate their support which will help the Trust and the club to get over the line.
“The board are investing a great deal in making Barrow AFC a great place to watch football and Travel The Globe’s support will certainly help."
