A HOTEL is gearing up for its busiest time of the year - as it prepares to take delivery of an extraordinary 1.2 tonnes of turkey.
The Abbey House Hotel and Gardens will serve up a remarkable 15,000 Christmas dinners over the festive period.
And there will be no shortage of gravy to accompany them - as the hotel’s chefs will whip up 1,500 litres of the stuff to keep guests happy.
For head chef, Ashley Wood (pictured), the season of goodwill is as busy as it is enjoyable.
He said: “The kitchens of the hotel are non-stop for around 50 days, as we deal with Christmas dinners and lunches from launch day on November 25 well into January.
“It is a time for real teamwork and togetherness because each and every guest to the hotel is with us for a special reason, be it a work’s party, a family get together or simply a meal in the festive surroundings of the hotel.
“We have placed our orders with all of our local suppliers for the ingredients we need to ensure we can cook each and every Christmas meal from scratch.”
In addition to the belly-busting amounts of turkey and gravy, the Abbey House Hotel will also serve up:
60,000 roast potatoes
120,000 Brussels sprouts
750kg of cranberry sauce
3,250 Xmas puddings
Many of the meals will be served up during the hotel’s very popular Christmas party nights, which see thousands of people dress to impress as they mark the festive season in style.
Christmas Day is also a popular time to celebrate at the hotel - although this year is fully booked.
General manager, John Horton, said: “The work that our kitchen and front of house team will put in over the coming weeks is considerable. They are on hand to ensure that everything runs like clockwork.
“It isn’t lost on us that we are very fortunate to be the venue of choice for so many people over the Christmas period.
“Never do we take that for granted and never do we allow ourselves to forget that each and every guest is is with us to have a fantastic time.
“The orders are in, the plans are in place and we have been recruiting staff over the last few weeks to ensure we deliver on everyone’s festive expectations.
“We are planning for nothing other than a Christmas cracker of a party season.”
