NEW technology enabling older people to report problems in their home at the touch of a button has been installed in hundreds of properties in Glasgow.
Bosses at Queens Cross Housing Association have adopted the unique management system to ensure more people aged 60 and over can live safely in their homes for as long as possible.
The independence promoting technology; Housing Proactive from Alertacall, is now operational within 400 Queens Cross supported living properties across the city.
Louise Smith, director of neighbourhood services at Queens Cross Housing Association, said: “Providing well-managed homes that maintain health is one of our strategic aims.
“Supporting older people to live independently at home is one of the ways we deliver this.
“Adding the OKEachDay system has given our older tenants reassurance that they can contact us quickly and easily for assistance with their tenancy.
“It also gives peace of mind to those who live alone,” she added.
Queens Cross is a community-based housing association with nearly 4,300 homes stretching from Glasgow city centre and along either side of the Forth and Clyde Canal.
Now, tenants simply have to press a button every morning to let the team know that everything is OK at their property before getting on with their day.
The system has been proven to increase confidence among those living alone as well as increasing their ability to contact their housing provider.
The Housing Proactive service also provides tenants with news, updates and other important information relating to their property, while allowing them to report faults easily.
Staff at Queens Cross are able to engage with residents often and more effectively than ever before as well as being able to plan improvement works and confirm occupancy.
Martin Cutbill, a director of Alertacall, which has bases in Cumbria and Cheshire, said the easy-to-use technology would help focus staff time and allow Queens Cross to detect changing housing needs earlier.
