THE health and wellbeing of all employees is to be championed by Barrow Borough Council.
The authority has launched a new strategy to promote and support its teams across the area.
It is designed to ensure staff thrive in their roles, leading to greater resilience and productivity within the workforce.
Councillor Lee Roberts, Barrow Borough Council spokesperson for HR, explained the health
and mental wellbeing of employees was of vital importance.
“Our people are at the very heart of all we do here at Barrow Borough Council so it’s crucial we promote a safe, secure and positive working environment.
“We want a greater sense of health and wellbeing to be a thread that runs right the way through our communities. Prioritising this for our own staff, many of whom live in the borough, is a great place to start.”
The strategy will see Barrow Borough Council focus on the ways it can provide support to
members of staff.
This will include volunteer wellbeing champions within teams who will each receive training in how to help colleagues.
An annual health and wellbeing plan will also now be drafted to set out actions for the year
Cllr Roberts added: “This is an ambitious and aspirational strategy for the council, but one we see as a key component in our ability to deliver first class services to residents.
“It’s hugely important that our employees see our commitment to increased awareness and
understanding of both physical and mental health needs.
“We strongly believe that every life matters.
“We will work hard to create a supportive working environment where stigma or taboo around health and wellbeing discussions are driven out in favour of understanding, recognition and help.”
